Jeep pulls Bruce Springsteen Super Bowl ad after learning of his arrest for drunk driving

Bruce Springsteen is facing a charge of drunk driving in New Jersey. Springsteen was arrested on Nov. 14 in a part of the Gateway National Recreation Area on the New Jersey coast, a National Park Service spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.

The park is on a narrow peninsula, surrounded by beaches, with views across the bay to New York City. It is about 15 miles north of Asbury Park, where Springsteen started out as a musician and band leader and later became famous with his debut album, “Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ” Springsteen lives in Colts Neck, about 19 km from the prison site.

Springsteen received quotes for driving under the influence of drugs, driving recklessly and drinking alcohol in an enclosed area. The spokesman said Springsteen was cooperative.

A message was left seeking comments from Springsteen’s publicist.

The news of the arrest came after two high-profile appearances by Springsteen. On January 20, Springsteen performed as part of President Biden takes office, singing “Land of Hope and Dreams” in front of the Lincoln Memorial. During Sunday Super Bowl, he appeared in a Jeep ad shot in Kansas, urging people to find common ground.

Jeep issued a statement saying that “it would be inappropriate to comment on the details of an issue that we just read about and cannot verify”. But the company said, “It is also right that we pause our Big Game commercial until the real facts can be established.”

A search on the Jeep YouTube channel for his Super Bowl ad yielded no results, indicating that he had been withdrawn. However, it is still posted on Springsteen’s Instagram account.

The arrest was first reported by TMZ.com.
