Javicia Leslie of ‘Batwoman’ wants crossover Arrowverse ‘Super Black’

Javicia Leslie is ready to get dressed and face the worst of Gotham. O God Loved Me alum will soon wear the leather hood in season 2 of Bat Woman opens this Sunday (The CW, 8 / 7c). Leslie’s Ryan Wilder takes over from Kate Kane, who will be absent in action after Ruby Rose left the series in May.

With Leslie ready to join the Arrowverse, the actress says she is open to mingling with her CW companions, as the cast of Black Lightning. However, all crossover plans will have to wait until next year due to the outbreak of COVID.

“I am very sad about the situation with COVID because I know it is Black Lightninglast season, and I would love to crossover with them. Nafessa [Williams] and Jordan [Calloway] they are really good friends of mine, and it would have been great to play with them and be superheroes on the same show. That would have been epic, ”Leslie told TVLine, noting that she would still like to do a crossover when it is safe to do so.

“Whatever program has blacks in it, I will do these crossovers because I just want it to be a super black crossover,” she adds.

TVLine confirmed that the previously announced Arrowverse cross between Bat Woman and Superman and Lois was canceled as a result. According Bat Woman showrunner Caroline Dries, it also means that Kara Danvers probably won’t be in Gotham before Supergirl ends this season.

“We are not really able to make the pass because, physically, we cannot cross the teams due to fear of exposure to COVID,” explains Dries. “So if Supergirl it wasn’t ending this year, I’d say there was one more possibility. But I fear that, at least this year, we will not be able to exploit that dynamic. “

Bat WomanGotham’s second season will focus on Wilder’s journey as the newest Gotham cloaked crusader. She is black, lesbian and has a criminal record. Dries describes her as a messy, slightly silly and indomitable woman, whose life was marked by racial injustices and a troubled childhood. Wilder will use the bat costume as a way to escape from these unhealed wounds and become powerful in a way that she wouldn’t be able to do without the costume.

Wilder won’t just inherit those cool Batwoman gadgets; it will also add your unique touches. Leslie reveals that Wilder will make changes to the batsuit – among other things. “She wants to find a way to make this Batwoman comfortable for her, making her something she feels represents her life, her path, the people she represents.”
