Jared Veldheer to sign with the Green Bay Packers after wildcard start at Indianapolis Colts

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Jared Veldheer saved the Green Bay Packers in last year’s playoffs, and could do it again this year – and would make NFL history in the process.

The veteran offensive attack will sign with the Packers, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN on Monday.

Veldheer, 33, started on the left bout for the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday in his wild-card playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens and would be the first player in NFL history to play postseason games for two different playoff teams on same season if he appears in the Packers’ NFC division playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.

He is authorized to sign with Green Bay because he was on the Colts training team and was only promoted to the Colts playoff game and did not sign up for the 53-player squad, and he should be allowed to practice immediately because he was in the Colts’ COVID-19 test program.

Veldheer started for the Packers in the right tackle in the NFC division’s playoff victory over the Seattle Seahawks because of an illness in Bryan Bulaga. The Packers lured Veldheer out of retirement and hired him in November 2019.

The Colts dismissed Veldheer from another retirement for his training team last month.

The Packers lost left tackle David Bakhtiari to a torn ACL in practice, leading to the end of the regular season. They started Billy Turner on the left tackle in place of Bakhtiari and put Rick Wagner on the right tackle.

Veldheer would probably serve as the best substitute for the playoffs, but Wagner is dealing with a knee injury and did not participate in any training during last week’s goodbye.

It is also possible that the Packers are considering starting Veldheer at one of the tackle points and then moving Turner back to his primary position from last season, right guard – the point that would be partially responsible for blocking the All-Pro defensive tackle. by Rams Aaron Donald.
