Ivanka Trump will not challenge Marco Rubio for the Florida Senate seat

Ivanka Trump will not challenge Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio for his seat in the U.S. Senate in 2022, a source close to President Trump’s daughter confirmed to CBS News.

It was during a conversation between Ivanka Trump and Rubio a few weeks ago – not long after the riots on the Capitol on January 6 – when she informed him of her decision not to run.

In a statement provided to CBS News, Trump’s daughter, who was one of his top White House advisers, called the Florida senator “a good personal friend”.

“I know he will continue to drive significant progress on issues that we both care deeply about,” she said.

Speculation among Florida politicians increased after Trump, her husband, Jared Kushner, and their children moved from New York to Sunshine State after their father’s defeat in re-election to President Biden. The New York Times reported for the first time that she would not be running.

Another former senior White House official, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, has so far been the leading candidate in her race for governor of Arkansas. There has also been some speculation that Lara Trump, the wife of Trump’s son Eric Trump, could mount a political race in North Carolina to remove Republican Sen. Richard Burr’s seat.

Rubio did not respond to a request for comment.
