Israeli jets hit Gaza after rockets fired at the border | Gaza

Israel is targeting several locations in Gaza after the army said Palestinian militants fired rockets at the south of the country.

The Israel Defense Force (IDF) said Israeli aircraft hit three Hamas targets, including a rocket-making facility, underground infrastructure and a military post.

“Hamas will bear the consequences for all the terror that emanates from Gaza,” the force said in a tweet.

Palestinian media reported that the air strikes shattered windows in eastern Gaza City. There were no reports of victims.

Sirens had previously sounded in the port city of Ashkelon and in the area around the Gaza Strip, according to the army statement.

“Two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory,” said an army statement on Friday, adding that they were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system.

There were no reports of damage as a result of the interceptions.

Missiles saved from the air defense system lit up the sky in northern Gaza as they exploded trying to hit the approaching rockets.

Israeli emergency medical services said some people were treated for going into shock.

No Palestinian group in Gaza has taken responsibility for the launch of the rocket.

The latest fire in the Hamas-controlled Palestinian enclave came more than a month after a rocket was fired from the coastal strip at Israel.

Hamas, considered a terrorist group by Israel, took control of Gaza from the rival Palestinian Fatah movement in 2007, in an almost civil war. Since then, Hamas has waged three devastating wars with Israel on the coastal territory where some 2 million Palestinians live.

Israel has since maintained a paralyzing blockade in the Gaza Strip to prevent Hamas from arming itself.
