Interviews of former Jets QB Josh McCown for the position of head coach of Texas

Former Jets quarterback Josh McCown has expressed interest in training in the NFL in the past. Could this be the off-season in which he has his first chance?

The Houston Texans interviewed McCown for the position of head coach on Friday, the team announced. However, Texans should not rush their decision as they continue to look for more candidates.

If Texans hired McCown, they would partner him with at least one former NFL coach due to his inexperience, according to the Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

McCown is under contract with the Texans as a player for the 2021 season with a base salary of $ 1.075 million. He has been with Houston since November, when the 41-year-old left the Philadelphia training team.

McCown has spent 18 seasons in the NFL with 10 different teams. He started his career in 2002 at Arizona Cardinals for four seasons. McCown then wavered between the Lions, Raiders and Panthers from 2006-2009. After a year at UFL in 2010, McCown returned to the NFL in 2011 with Bears.

He was with Chicago for three years before joining the Buccaneers for a season in 2015. The Browns hired McCown in 2015 and held him for two years. The Jets signed with McCown in 2017 and he spent two seasons in New York. He started 16 games for the Jets and compiled a 5-11 record. He also served as Sam Darnold’s mentor during the latter’s debut season.

After a brief retirement in 2019, the Eagles signed with McCown. He played in his first career playoff game against the Seahawks when Carson Wentz was injured. He completed 18 of 24 passes for 174 yards to go along with 23 running yards and two fumbles in a losing effort.

Per Tom Pelissero of the NFL NetworkMcCown’s plan was to watch his children play football at school, but that could change if he gets a job offer in Texas.
