Intel’s new desktop GPUs do not work on AMD systems

Intel released its first Iris Xe desktop graphics card yesterday, but you won’t see them appearing on systems with AMD technology. While Nvidia and AMD desktop GPUs typically work with a variety of Intel and AMD processors, Intel’s new desktop GPUs are somewhat more limited for now.

“The Iris Xe discrete expansion card will be combined with 9th generation (Coffee Lake-S) and 10th generation (Comet Lake-S) and Intel (R) B460, H410, B365 and H310C Intel® Core ™ processors based and sold as part of pre-built systems, ”said an Intel spokesman in a statement to Legitimate reviews. “These motherboards require a special BIOS that supports Intel Iris Xe, so the cards will not be compatible with other systems.”

The restrictions make the most sense when you consider the target market for these early Intel desktop GPUs. Intel is working with Asus and other vendors to sell these cards to system integrators who will bundle them with pre-built systems. These are not GPUs that you can simply order online and they are designed to be bundled in a special way.

Intel’s idea with its initial Iris Xe desktop GPUs is simply to improve what is currently available on conventional PCs. Most business-oriented PCs ship with integrated graphics, and Intel is trying to offer something that improves support for multiple monitors and hardware acceleration.

These cards are not designed to improve the game or to be used on gaming platforms. Intel is also working on its Xe-HPG architecture, which may eventually provide cards that can compete with AMD and Nvidia. Hopefully, these cards will not be restricted to Intel systems in a similar way.
