Hey, remember how a few weeks ago Instagram posted some tips on how to create great Reels content, and within those tips, it kind of alluded to the fact that it really didn’t like users posting their TikTok clips to Reels?

See point 2 – ‘Share original content created on the Moments camera’
Well, clearly that note was very subtle for some, as today Instagram issued some new advice about the Reels, which include a more explicit warning about remail.

Yes, Instagram is not only now clearly advising against posting content that is ‘visibly recycled from other apps’, but it has also updated its algorithm to reduce those posts in the Moments and Explore tab.
Instagram confirmed the move to The Verge, explaining that:
“We’re building on what we’ve learned with Explore to recommend fun and entertaining videos in places like the Moments tab and personalize the experience. We are improving the use of classification signs that help us predict whether people will find a roll fun and whether we should recommend it. “
So Instagram is saying that users don’t like all those new TikTok shares, so it’s looking to eliminate them by detecting visible watermarks and low-quality (i.e., blurry) shares. You can still share them if you like, like Instagram notes, and they will still be seen by your followers. But if you want to reach a wider audience with your Moments, you’ll probably want to avoid duplicating your TikTok clips.
Of course, the most likely explanation here is that Instagram prefers not to promote TikTok in its own app, rather than users complaining or being less involved with these new shares. But maybe Instagram is right – TikTok re-shares tend to have lower video quality, and that can make people less involved with them.
Anyway, the advice is clear.
If you want to maximize your Moments clips, here’s what Instagram recommends:

Just creating fun and entertaining clips is not that difficult.
Yes, it’s not always that easy, and it’s definitely a challenge to create ‘fun and entertaining’ content consistently. But if you’re looking to use Moments in your approach, these tips and guidelines provide more parameters around what you should focus on and how you should approach your efforts.
