Indianapolis shooting: Raymond Childs charged with six counts of murder for allegedly shooting a pregnant woman and her family

Raymond Childs III, 17, was also charged with attempted murder of a brother who fled the family home after the initial shot and carried an unlicensed gun, according to court documents shared by the Marion County District Attorney.

He is being charged as an adult “due to his age and the alleged murder,” according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office.

Childs is represented by the Marion County Public Defender Agency, which declined to comment on the allegations, the agency told CNN.

“We intend to seek justice for the victims and do so in a way that respects the process and all the circumstances present in this case,” said prosecutor Ryan Mears in the note.

The deaths are the biggest mass shooting in the city in more than 10 years, Indianapolis Metro Police Chief Randal Taylor said on Sunday.

Childs reportedly killed his family after his father scolded him for “leaving home without permission,” according to court documents.

Childs allegedly shot and killed his brother Elijah before shooting his father, Raymond Childs Jr., and stepmother Kezzie Childs.

Detectives also found his deceased 13-year-old sister. Elijah’s pregnant girlfriend, Kiara Hawkins, was pronounced dead in a hospital, according to testimonies filed on Thursday.

A murder count includes Hawkins’ unborn child, who was “close to birth,” according to a summary of the autopsy results.

Raymond Childs III’s next court hearing is on April 21, according to the prosecution.
