Central Republican Committee of La Salle County announced in a press release on Wednesday that more than 88 percent of the group voted in favor of censoring Kinzinger, who emerged as an important Trump critic, adding that the committee “received unsolicited support for censoring more than 40 Central Republican Central Committees from the state of Illinois. ”
The committee’s statement says the censorship “repudiates Mr Kinzinger for acting contrary to the values of the Central Republican Committee of La Salle County”.
The group’s president, Larry Smith, added in a statement that he received “hundreds and hundreds” of emails, text messages and phone calls from within and outside the county “expressing his frustration and much more with Congressman Kinzinger’s actions and statements in the last few months months. ”
“Many were very direct in saying that their support for the Republican Party would end if Congressman Kinzinger’s behavior was not addressed,” continued Smith. “Although our Central Committee is not known for political activism and we have always supported Republicans at all levels, Congressman Kinzinger’s actions and statements against former President Trump opened a Pandora’s box of criticism.”

Kinzinger’s office did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
Kinzinger, a vocal critic of Trump, is the last among Republicans who voted in favor of Trump’s impeachment to be censored by Republican groups.
Ten Republican lawmakers joined all House Democrats last month in voting for Trump’s impeachment, accusing him of inciting the crowd’s deadly attack on the Capitol. Since then, at least six were censored or convicted by state or local republican parties.

Kinzinger was among those who supported Cheney in Wednesday’s vote, and Thursday released a statement in support of his holding the leadership post in the House, arguing that Cheney “voted for his conscience and leads with conviction”.
“We need leadership like Liz Cheney and we need to tell the American people the truth,” added Kinzinger. “As a party, we must defend the truth, not conspiracy theories and lies. We must be the party of ideas, not agitators and personality politics. We must be the party of hope and optimism, not anger and negativity. “
