Illegal immigrant on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List captured near the US-Mexico border, officials reveal

A Yemeni citizen on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List was caught last week entering the United States illegally across the southern border, the second incident in the past two months, officials said on Monday.

The 26-year-old unidentified man was arrested on March 30, two miles west of the border in Calexico, California, 130 miles east of San Diego, Customs and Border Protection said.

During a background check, agents discovered their name on the watch list, a database containing the names of people suspected of or known to be involved in terrorist activities and the No-Fly list.

The man was in federal custody while being deported to Yemen.

Two Yemeni citizens whose names appear on the FBI's Terrorism Watch List and Air Exclusion List have been detained in separate incidents after illegally entering the United States, Customs and Border Protection officials said on Monday.

“Part of the Border Patrol mission says that we will protect the country from terrorists,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gregory Bovino. “Today, like every other day, our agents did this. These apprehensions on our border illustrate the importance of our mission and how we can never fail to be vigilant in our daily mission to protect this great country ”.

In the early hours of the morning of January 29, agents took another Yemeni man into custody near the same border crossing. They found a cell phone and SIM cards hidden under the shoes of the unidentified man, CBP said.
