After canceling culture’s unfair victory over longtime “The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison for the sin of compassion, the franchise has announced who will take its place to host this season’s final episode, which features the series’s first black bachelor. The interim host will be former Eagles linebacker Emmanuel I think.
Harrison, of course, cannot present now because just before filming the end of the season, called “After the Final Rose”, he made the mistake of responding to cancel the culture. When photos of one of this season’s contestants surfaced at a pre-war themed college party, Harrison asked for “a little grace, a little understanding, a little compassion” for her. This was a bridge too far for progressives who intend to do vigilant justice on people whose past has not awakened enough. Not only did the competitor face adverse reactions online, but also Harrison, who then offered a self-inflicted apology for his grace that looked like a hostage letter and withdrew from the lodging indefinitely. Type I think.
I don’t think he’s a former competitor, nor a close friend of the Bachelor Nation franchise. He was never invited or made a cameo. The arena of I think is not matchmaking, it is Lincoln Financial Field; he is a former NFL player, not a former bachelor. In other words, he is not the logical replacement for Harrison after the fall of the iconic presenter during the infamous interview with first black maiden Rachel Lindsay. So why is I think hosting?
Well, Lindsay and her husband recommended I think, which hosts the podcast “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man”, as a “fantastic” host for the end. “[He’s] very frank about racial injustice, for social justice, and it was practically the person who said, ‘I can have these nasty conversations and people trust them,’ ”said Lindsay. “Who better to lead you? [He’s] someone who is not involved with the franchise, without ties, without prejudice – I think that would be great. “
Lindsay’s husband agreed, saying, “I agree with these feelings. I think Emmanuel I think would be the perfect person to have those uncomfortable conversations with the competitors, with [bachelor Matt James] at the end of the day, and I think it would be a really positive step forward. “
I think, according to the woman who led the revolt against Harrison, the perfect person to present an apolitical reality show about finding love because he is what? Did you speak loudly about racial issues?
This is not the first time that ABC has given in to the loudest voices in the room. “Last summer, I was saying that I would walk away if there wasn’t a color lead, if the changes weren’t made, and then the Bachelor Diversity Campaign came along, which was incredible,” said Lindsay of her ex-ultimatum. The Diversity Campaign “The Bachelor” was the result of an online petition for “anti-racism in the Bachelor franchise”, which presented demands such as racial quotas within the cast and crew, as well as “egalitarian screen time”, the addition of a “diversity consultant” and “resources” BIPOC for viewers.
While this may be shocking to ABC writers and producers, many of us, fans of Bachelor Nation, watch the program not because we are interested in Harrison or Lindsay’s political trends, but because we want to take a break from work, in the pandemic and in politics, and have fun instead. If we wanted to watch someone “talking openly about racial injustice”, we would attend a Black Lives Matter rally or read a book by Robin DiAngelo. The only “uncomfortable conversations” that many viewers are interested in watching on Monday nights are frightening first impressions and tearful breakups with mean girls.
One of the things that made Harrison so important to the program was that he was the first and only host. For nearly two decades, Chris Harrison has been synonymous with the series. “Wait a moment. Say goodbye”, it will never sound the same coming out of someone else’s mouth. Lindsay’s plugin for I think, that he “is not involved with the franchise, without ties, without prejudice”, shows the how out of touch with viewers she really is.
I think he will be the presenter at the end not because he is the best person for the job, but because of the color of his skin and the rate of votes. It’s identity politics at its best, and that’s not why we’re here.
