Hoyer says ‘break in process’ led 42 individuals to receive antibodies instead of vaccine at clinic

DANVILLE, W.Va. – West Virginia Adjutant General James Hoyer says a ‘process malfunction’ led to 42 people receiving the Regeneron Antibody product instead of the Modern COVID-19 Vaccine in Boone County.

The West Virginia National Guard said on Thursday that these individuals received the antibody product at a vaccination clinic hosted by Boone County Health Department officials on Wednesday.

Hoyer explained what happened during an appearance on MetroNews ‘Talkline’, saying that they have now added another step in the process to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.

“The facility placed those doses of Regeneron with the doses of Moderna that entered the hub. Unfortunately, although we had checks in place due to some human errors, those checks have not been met, ”he said.

Hoyer said that none of the 42 people who received the antibody had no precipitation or reaction when receiving it, on Thursday morning, and have already been scheduled to receive the vaccine as soon as possible.

DHHR will also regularly monitor all individuals who have received the antibody as an additional precaution.

“There are no problems for these individuals. It is the same antibody that the president received during treatment. It was a very small amount based on the dosage, ”said Hoyer.

In a National Guard press release on Thursday, he exposed several ‘key points’, including medical experts from the Joint Interagency Task Force who do not believe there is any risk of harm to these 42 individuals and no other individual received the antibody instead of the vaccine at any time in West Virginia.

The Guard also said that no other vaccine shipments before yesterday or going forward were affected, all vaccine-related protocols were revised and enforced and 7,855 West Virgins were vaccinated on Wednesday across the state,

“The products administered are antibodies that fight COVID-19,” said Dr. Clay Marsh in a press release, the state COVID-19 Czar.

“In fact, this product was the same product that was administered to President Trump when he was infected. Although this injection is not harmful, it has been replaced by the vaccine.
