Houston nightclub shooting: three Harris County sheriffs shot, one woman dead

The deputies were in uniform, working extra jobs at the Set Night Club, Houston Police Chief Executive Troy Finner told reporters at a news conference on Sunday.

All three deputies were shot while trying to stop a parking fight after the club closed.

Despite Covid-19 and requests to stay home, 2020 saw an increase in homicides in the U.S.

A Hispanic man in his 20s opened fire on the crowd, Finner said. The suspect was taken into custody after seeking treatment for a gunshot wound at a Sugarland area hospital and is being questioned about the reason, Finner said.

The assistant chief of the Houston Police Department, Troy Finner, speaks during a news conference after three sheriff's deputies were shot outside a nightclub on Sunday.

All three deputies, two men and a woman, were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive. The deputy will have surgery on Sunday morning, but was “in a good mood,” said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of Houston.

A 40-year-old Hispanic woman shot was taken to hospital and died of her injuries. It is not clear at this point how many people were shooting, Finner said, but the incident is under investigation.
