Hospitals hospitalized for COVID-19 drop below 300 as vaccination rates continue to rise

Utah reports 943 new cases and 5 more deaths.

For the first time since late October, the number of hospitalized Utahns for COVID-19 has dropped to less than 300, a sign that the pandemic’s control over health resources may be decreasing. Utah officials also reported their third consecutive day of distribution of at least 20,000 doses of the vaccine.

Vaccinations reported the day before / total vaccinations • 22,473 / 512,189.

Number of Utahns who received two doses • 153,307.

Cases reported the previous day • 943.

Deaths reported the day before • 5

  • Iron County resident, aged 65-84, hospitalized at the time of death.

  • Salt Lake County resident, aged 45-64, not hospitalized at the time of death.

  • Tooele County resident, aged 65 to 84, hospitalized at the time of death.

  • Utah County resident, aged 45 to 64, hospitalized at the time of death.

  • A male resident of Utah County, over 85, was not hospitalized at the time of death.

Hospitalizations reported the previous day • 298. This is 14 compared to Friday and the first day below 300 since October 26. Of those currently hospitalized, 116 are in intensive care units – 2 less than on Friday.

Tests reported the day before • 6,803 people were tested for the first time. A total of 18,233 people were tested on Friday.

Percentage of positive tests • In the original state method, the rate is 13.9%. This is slightly lower than the seven-day average of 14.4%.

His new method counts all test results, including repeated tests from the same individual. That rate is now 5.2%, lower than the 6.4% 7-day average.

Totals to date • 360,584 cases; 1,790 deaths; 14,151 hospitalizations; 3,584,792 tests.
