Hoobastank’s “The Reason” is in fashion with kids today … it’s something you haven’t heard since 2004, but the band wants to capitalize on its recent fame in 2021.
We talked to the vocalist Doug Robb about increasing the popularity of one of his group’s most famous songs on TikTok – which is the theme for a new challenge, where people list things that went wrong … using “The Reason” to wash away their shame.
The track has been used hundreds of millions of times in the past few months, as people post their own versions – and, of course, Doug and co. thinking about the best way to surf the wave … without being shy.
Check out what he says about the prospect of producing new music now that he and the band are back in the spotlight – Doug is feeling inspired, but also explained why they will not please OR’s new fans.
All this viral success creates an enigma … Doug says he doesn’t want to be the guy who takes this opportunity to exhaustion, but still wants to make the most of it.
So far, they have made some of their own interpretations of #NotAPerfctPerson on TikTok – all funny and original – but Doug’s apprehension about diving is a phenomenon that many older artists are experiencing due to TikTok.
The fact is that a whole new generation is being introduced to their music for the first time – like what Fleetwood Mac recently went through with viral skater – and pressures the OGs themselves … to profit or enjoy what is worthwhile.
In the case of Doug, I hope they come out with new material – their last album was in 2018, so the world is late for more stench!
