Former “Home Improvement” star Zachery Ty Bryan pleaded guilty on Tuesday to two charges stemming from his Oregon arrest last October, on allegations that he physically assaulted his girlfriend.
Bryan, 39, who played his eldest son, Brad Taylor, on the hit 1990s sitcom, pleaded guilty to “threatening – constituting domestic violence and fourth degree assault – constituting domestic violence,” said the county’s assistant district attorney. Lane, Alex Pierce, who handled the case, said TODAY by email.
Six other charges, which included harassment, coercion, strangulation, interference with making a police report and two additional charges of threat and fourth degree assault, were all dismissed, Pierce confirmed.
Bryan was sentenced to three years probation with standard domestic violence conditions imposed, according to Pierce. Conditions include Bryan attending and completing an intervention program for attackers and having no contact with the victim in the case.
TODAY contacted Bryan’s representative for comment.
The actor was arrested for allegedly smothering a woman he had a relationship with after neighbors in an apartment complex in Eugene called the police to report a physical dispute.
The officers found Bryan sitting outside the apartment when they arrived, according to an arrest report obtained by TODAY.
The 27-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, was waiting for the police at a neighbor’s apartment.
“An investigation found that during the dispute, Bryan attacked the victim, prevented his breathing and took the victim’s phone when she tried to call 911. The two are in a relationship,” police wrote in the arrest report.
His most recent role was in the TV movie “Thor: Hammer of the Gods” in 2009, according to his IMDb page. He currently works as a producer.
Bryan has four children with his wife, Carly Matros, whom he married in 2007.
