‘Hero’ garbage truck driver rescues dog he found in discarded backpack

A garbage company in Ohio is praising one of its drivers as a hero after he saved a dog he found in a discarded backpack by the side of the road.

Aaron Kinsel, a driver from Rumpke, was working Wednesday morning in Colerain Township, just outside Cincinnati, when he noticed the bag moving and got out of his truck to investigate. A 10-week-old boxer-mix puppy was indoors and disturbed, according to the company.

DOG WITH DEFECT AT BIRTH IS TAKEN BY THE FAMILY THAT IS LOOKING TO ADOPT

The abandoned dog had a broken leg and was dehydrated. Kinsel wrapped the puppy in a sweatshirt to keep warm and other Rumpke employees came to bring him to the vet for treatment.

Kinsel saved the dog, but he didn’t break up with her. He and his family decided to adopt the dog. He called her Tipper in honor of the mechanism at the back of the garbage trucks that collect the garbage containers.

“I felt I should find it,” said Kinsel in a statement released by the company.

Kendra Catherman, Rumpke’s safety manager in Cincinnati, said Rumpke drivers are trained to be observers.

“We do our best to take care of our communities and we always do the right thing,” said Catherman in a written statement. “We are very proud of Aaron and very pleased to make Tipper an honorary member of our Rumpke team.”
