Family and friends say his name is Albert Maynard and he was in his 60s.

“It is absolutely painful. I just saw Al yesterday. He was comforting me about my father. So with that said, he will be sorely missed, ”said neighbor Lagenia Williams.

For Williams, knowing that his neighbor is gone is too close.

“I have known Al for over 40 years. We are neighbors and have lived in this neighborhood all our lives, ”she said.

When the teams arrived to fight the fire, they took him out of the house and tried to save his life.

He was taken to Bayfront Health, where he died.

Investigators say this was not the only loss of life.

“It started on the side. It looks like the fire source area will be the kitchen area. A dog was also found inside the house who is also deceased. They were the only two in the house, ”said Lieutenant Steven Lawrence, deputy Marshal of the St. Petersburg Fire Department.

As long as the questions remain, for those who live on the narrow street of 6th Avenue South, they will have memories and each other to lean on.

“He is a very good and hardworking man. He had his own business, he got up every morning and went to work. His daughter is in college. He was a very, very good man, ”said Williams.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the cause of death is undetermined.
