Hawaii ‘NCIS’ Spinoff in progress at CBS

A new “NCIS” spinoff set in Hawaii is under development at CBS, Variety learned from the sources.

Few details of the plot are available in the potential series, except that a team of Navy criminal investigators operating in the Hawaiian Islands will follow.

According to sources, Chris Silber, Jan Nash and Matt Bosack were included as writers and executive producers on “NCIS: Hawaii”. Silber is the showrunner and executive producer of fellow spinoff “NCIS: New Orleans” and previously worked on the mothership program. Nash is also a screenwriter and executive producer for “NCIS: New Orleans”, while Bosack is a screenwriter and supervising producer for a CBS drama “SEAL Team”. Silber and Nash are currently under general agreements with CBS Studios, which would produce the show.

CBS declined to comment.

The “NCIS” franchise is one of the pillars of CBS. The mothership program remains one of the most watched programs on television, even in its 18th season. The show’s current season averages 9.6 million viewers per episode on Live + Same Day alone. The program also proved popular on streaming platforms, consistently ranked in the top 10 of Nielsen’s streaming ranking, which was released by first time last summer. “NCIS: New Orleans” is currently in its seventh season, while fellow spinoff “NCIS: Los Angeles” is currently in its 12th.

If “NCIS: Hawaii” goes to the series, which seems inevitable, it would also be the last CBS series to take place in Hawaii. The network currently exhibits a reinitialization of the “Magnum PI” procedure from the 1980s and previously exhibited a reinitiation of “Hawaii Five-O”. The third season of the CBS version of the reality show “Love Island” is also being filmed in Hawaii.
