Golden Trump statue turned heads at CPAC was made in… Mexico | Donald Trump

A gold statue of Donald Trump that caused controversy at the annual meeting of conservatives in the United States was made in Mexico – a country that the former president has often demonized.

The statue is bigger than life, with a golden head and a Trump jacket with a white shirt and red tie. Videos and photos of the tribute being distributed through the corridors of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, spread on Friday.

The conference is seen as a vital meeting of the Republican right and this year has become a symbol of Trump’s continued control over the party, despite having been expelled from office after two impeachments, seemingly endless parades of scandals and a flawed response to pandemic coronavirus that has cost half a million lives in the United States.

Now, the artist behind the huge Trump statue – Tommy Zegan – has revealed that the object was made in Mexico; a country that has been the target of many racist abuses by Trump in his political career, and a place against which he literally tried to build a wall.

“It was made in Mexico,” Zegan told the Politico’s Playbook newsletter. Zegan, who lives in Mexico on a permanent resident visa, described the transportation of the monument to CPAC in its entirety for the Playbook.

The Politician reported: “Zegan spent more than six months building the 90 kg fiberglass statue with the help of three men in Rosarito. He transported it to Tampa, Florida, where it was painted in chrome and then transported it from there to CPAC. “
