Golden Globe nominee Chloé Zhao directing ‘Dracula’ for Universal – Deadline

Universal Pictures is developing a futuristic sci-fi western inspired by the classic Universal Dracula monster with Chloé Zhao, who recently received two Golden Globe nominations for Nomadland in the direction and script categories. She will write, direct and produce through her production company Highwayman.

“Chloé’s unique lenses illuminate stories of forgotten and misunderstood people,” said Peter Cramer, president of Universal Pictures. “We are excited to work with her as she reimagines one of the most iconic outsider characters ever created.”

“I have always been fascinated by vampires and the concept of the Other that they embody,” said Zhao. “I am very excited to be working with Donna, Peter and the Universal team to reimagine such a beloved character.”

Nomadland received four Golden Globe nominations overall, with her other nods including Best Picture (Drama) and Best Drama Actress by Frances McDormand. Zhao is the first Asian woman to receive a Golden Globe nomination for direction. Your next resource is Eternals from Disney / Marvel Studios.
