Giuliani currently does not represent Trump ‘on any legal issues’, said the consultant

The former New York mayor was the face of Trump’s failed attempt to overturn the presidential election results, but his legal work with the former president goes back years.

Miller said in a tweet that Giuliani has remained an “ally and friend” and is not representing Trump just because there are no pending cases in which he is involved.
Trump had signaled frustration with Giuliani last month after he became the first president in U.S. history to face two charges. He told his team to stop paying Giuliani’s legal fees, a person familiar with the matter previously told CNN, although advisers were unclear whether Trump was serious about his instructions.
Now out of office and without the protections the presidency has given him, Trump is facing several criminal investigations, marital status investigations and defamation lawsuits by two women who accuse him of sexual assault.
Georgia officials have announced that the former president faces two new investigations into calls he made to election officials in an attempt to overturn the state’s election results.

And Trump faces a criminal investigation in New York, where the Manhattan district attorney’s office is investigating whether the Trump Organization violated state laws, such as insurance fraud, tax fraud or other fraud schemes.

The scope of the investigation is broad, with prosecutors investigating, among other things, whether the Trump Organization misled financial institutions by applying for loans or violated tax laws by donating a conservation easement on its property called Seven Springs and deducting fees paid to consultants.

The former president also expressed particular concern about whether he could face charges as a result of the January 6 riot at the United States Capitol that he was accused of inciting, according to several people.

“He is concerned about this,” an adviser close to Trump told CNN.

Although Giuliani is among Trump’s fiercest public defenders, his work on behalf of the former president has created legal problems of his own.

Democratic MP Bennie Thompson of Mississippi filed a civil suit on Tuesday accusing Giuliani and Trump of conspiring with far-right groups Proud Boys and Oath Keepers to incite the January 6 uprising.

Giuliani, the suit alleges, angered the crowd by saying to supporters, “We are going to do the trial in combat.”

In addition, Giuliani is facing lawsuits from two voting technology companies, Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, related to the adoption of unfounded conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, which lasted for months.

CLARIFICATION: The title of this story has been updated to clarify that Rudy Giuliani is not representing the former president.
