Girl scout cookies available for delivery on Grubhub

For the first time, Girl Scouts will partner with food delivery service Grubhub to deliver their beloved cookies that their members sell annually to support youth programs and activities.

The partnership will allow Girl Scouts to sell cookies safely during the pandemic through contactless collection and delivery.

Those who wish to taste cookies and support the organization, but do not personally know a girl scout, can also request cookies online as of February 1, the organization said in a press release on Tuesday.

“We are proud of the ingenious ways in which Girl Scouts are running their cookie business safely and using their earnings to make the world a better place,” said Judith Batty, interim CEO of GSUSA, in a statement this week.

Pandemic-related restrictions on selling cookies personally helped girls develop their entrepreneurial skills. They had to “use innovative sales tactics and look for new ways to do business when things didn’t go according to plan,” added Batty.

Grubhub will offer collection or delivery of cookies to selected cities from an expanding list of states, including Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Texas.

It’s an e-commerce experience also for troop members as young as five, who will learn how to manage inventory, track and fulfill orders using Grubhub’s back-end technology – just like many small business owners new online platforms had to learn to do during the pandemic.

Grubhub, often beaten by restaurants by charging them a very high fee to serve customers, it is waiving all of its fees for Girl Scouts so that the organization receives 100% of the revenue from its cookie sales, according to the announcement.

“GSUSA thanks Grubhub for waiving all fees from the organization for making this new delivery option viable for sales without reducing the income of troops and councils,” the organization said in a press release.

Online orders through Grubhub start on February 14th. Online orders through the Girl Scouts’ digital cookie platform begin on February 1st.
