Georgia swimming and diving sweep South Carolina on last day | sports

The Georgia swim and dive team returned from an eight-week hiatus on Saturday with a sweep against South Carolina in Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The Bulldogs finished first in 26 events, resulting in a 184-116 win for the female number 3 and a 179.5-103.5 win for the second male team.

Before the meeting, the program recognized 17 senior class members and several seniors brought home the first place for Bulldogs.

On the women’s side, veteran Courtney Harnish stole the show by being first in the 100 free yards (49.45 seconds), 100 butterfly yards (53.33) and 100 back yards (54.33). Veterans Olivia Anderson and Sammie Burchill drove home first in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 400 IM, respectively.

The elderly also dominated men, as Jack Dalmolin snatched the breaststroke events. Greg Reed took first in the 1,000 freestyle and Camden Murphy posted the fastest overall time in the 100 butterfly (47.55).

The sweep continued in freestyle events with freshman wins Jake Magahey in the 50s, 200s and 500s and Maxine Parker in the 50s and 200s. Juniors Dakota Luther and Andrew Abruzzo finished first in the 200 butterfly yards, while Jillian Barczyk won her first high school win in the 500-yard freestyle. In addition, sophomores Zach Hils and Ian Grum ranked first in the 100th freestyle and 200th backstroke, respectively.

With regard to diving, senior Zach Allen was the first in both 1 meter (330.60) and 3 meter (343.43) men. Junior Tally Brown also took the lead in both races for women, earning the season’s top 3 meters (323.18).

Three new Bulldogs made their debut at Saturday’s meeting, starting with freshman Wesley Ng, who was first in the 100 backstroke and second in the 100 butterflies. Freshman Tommy-Lee Camblong won two second places in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle, while Millie Sansome, transferred from Iowa, was fourth in the 200 backstroke and fifth in the 100 backstroke.

Georgia will end its regular season with a fight against Tennessee Volunteers on January 23 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
