Georgia equestrian leads 4th place in South Carolina by 10-6 to start spring season | sports

Georgia’s No. 5 equestrian team defeated South Carolina’s No. 4 10-6 on Saturday afternoon at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Georgia.

Fresh horseback rider Leah Anderson secured the victory for the Bulldogs with a score of 75.5 on their debut, earning the honors for Best Performance. Georgia is now 2-2 in the season, competing against opponents of the Southeast Conference.

“I am very proud of the team,” said coach Meghan Boenig. “I loved how they really worked, made some incredible trips and huge scores. I am very confident in how things went today. It’s good to have some retribution from last fall. “

After losing the first point to South Carolina, freshman Jordan Toering advanced to the next point with a score of 83. Georgia won the next three points of the event with a 3-1 lead at Fences.

In Reining, junior Lindsay Guynn won the first point with a 71.5 over South Carolina. Courtney Blumer followed suit, winning with a score of 70.5, and after receiving a new race, senior Jordan Carpenter did 70 in the anchor position, giving Georgia a total of three points.

Georgia added a point in Flat. South Carolina won the first point of the event before Toering won the next point with a 68. Senior Isabella Heckler drew with her opponent before South Carolina took the final point of the event.

When the rain started, Horsemanship began. Junior Taylor Burgess started by defeating his opponent 76-75, and Anderson secured the victory for the Bulldogs with a score of 75.5. To end the day, Kendall Gill won the final point by overtaking his opponent by a margin of one point.

The next Bulldog meeting will be on February 19, where the Jumping Seat team will host Sweet Briar College at UGA Equestrian Complex starting at 11am.
