Georgia District Attorney Investigating Trump Hires Attorney Experienced In Extortion Cases

John Floyd is expected to assist the district attorney’s office in several cases in white collar units, gangs and public corruption, said Jeff DiSantis, a spokesman for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

Two people familiar with his hiring said he was not specifically hired to investigate Trump’s post-election liaison with Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

“He was hired for his experience in extortion in general – not for any specific case,” said DiSantis.

Floyd declined to comment. His hiring was first reported by Reuters.

Floyd would be an asset if Willis decided to pursue a complicated extortion case against Trump. It is one of the possible charges she is investigating, according to Willis’ requests for preservation of documents last month.

Willis’s office has not yet defined how it will structure the team investigating the former president. They are actively looking to bring in more external knowledge, according to a person familiar with the investigation.
