Two counties in Georgia have filed lawsuits seeking to recover former President Donald Trump’s attorney fees, incurred by him as part of a failed campaign to prove widespread electoral fraud in the November presidential election.
Cobb County and DeKalb County on Monday filed lawsuits seeking to recover the costs of attorney fees incurred in lawsuits failed by electoral fraud that Trump filed against them in December. Both motions seek to recover the costs of Trump, as well as of the president of the Republican Party of Georgia, David Shafer.
Election supervisors for Cobb and DeKalb counties were among those nominated in a failed lawsuit filed in the High Court of Fulton County by the Trump campaign in December, which sought to dismiss the result of Georgia’s presidential election, which President Joe Biden won by a relatively narrow margin.
The Trump campaign has opened dozens of other lawsuits across the country to overturn the election result, which also failed.
The Cobb County motion said Janine Eveler, the county election director, and the Cobb County Electoral Council spent more than $ 10,000 defending Trump’s baseless claims.
He said the claims “were found to be deficient in terms of procedures, factually unsupported, or both,” and said the fees represented “only a fraction” of the fees incurred by a total of fifteen counties that also faced lawsuits.
“Given the number of failed lawsuits filed by the former president and his campaign, [Trump and others] apparently he believed that they could file their actions without foundation and legally disabled with impunity, without taking into account the costs extracted from the taxpayers’ coffers or the consequences for our country’s democratic bases, “declared the Cobb County motion.
The DeKalb County motion says he spent more than $ 6,000 defending himself against “unproven and frivolous allegations” of state law violations, electoral fraud, processing absentee votes and other unproven allegations.
Legal action was also brought against Georgia’s state election board, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and 13 other county election supervisors, KITV reported.
The Cobb County motion said that former President Trump and Shafer “brought this electoral dispute against the Georgia Secretary of State and members of the State Electoral Council who seek to nullify the votes of millions of Georgians.”
The case was dismissed in January, Hill reported, days after Trump was filmed pressuring Secretary of State Raffensperger to “find” additional votes for him.
“We have at least somewhere between 250 and 300,000 banknotes were mysteriously launched on the lists,” Trump told Raffensperger in the leaked phone call.
“I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have, because we won the state, and becoming the state is a great testament to our country,” said Trump.
Raffensperger reportedly started an investigation into Trump’s efforts to overturn the Georgia election results.
