‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ in progress on HBO

A serial adaptation of “Tales of Dunk and Egg”, a prequel to “Game of Thrones” events, is in early development on HBO, Variety learned exclusively from the sources.

The hour-long show would be based on a series of fantasy novels by George RR Martin, which follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years before the events of “A Song de Ice and Fire. “

Martin has published three novels in the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series so far: “The Hedge Knight” in 1998, “The Sworn Sword” in 2003 and “The Mystery Knight” in 2010. The three novels were then collected and published in together as “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in 2015.

No writer or talent is currently tied to the project, but sources say it is a high priority for HBO, as the premium hairdresser seeks to build on the success of “Game of Thrones”.

Representatives for HBO and Martin declined to comment.

If the project is for the series, it will be the second Game of Thrones prequel to hit the screens. The network is currently preparing the “House of the Dragon” series, which is scheduled to open in 2022. This program will document the escalation to the Targaryen civil war in Westeros, which is known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Fans have been calling the TV series “Tales of Dunk and Egg” for some time. There was hope that when HBO announced a series of “Game of Thrones” spin-offs were underway in 2017, the soap operas would be among the contenders for a series choice, but Martin later said there were no plans to adapt the books at that time.

Of course, just because the series is in development does not necessarily mean it will move forward. Another prequel to “Game of Thrones” written by Jane Goldman and starring Naomi Watts was for the HBO pilot, but ended up being passed over in 2019.
