‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘House of the Dragon’ adds four to launch

The previous “Game of Thrones” series, “HBO’s House of the Dragon”, is adding four new actors to its cast.

Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno are all joining the highly anticipated prequel to the HBO megahit show. They join previously announced stars Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith.

“House of the Dragon” is set a few hundred years before the “Game of Thrones” events and tells the story of House Targaryen and the Targaryen civil war that became known as the “Dance of Dragons”.

Toussaint will star as Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Sea Snake”. Lord of Casa Velaryon, a Valyrian lineage as old as Casa Targaryen. Like “The Sea Snake”, the most famous nautical adventurer in Westeros’ history, Lord Corlys transformed his home into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and claims to be the largest navy in the world.

Touissaint’s previous film roles include “Judge Dredd”, “Prince of Persia” and “Shooting Dogs”. He was recently seen on Steve McQueen’s “Small Ax” series and appeared on shows like “Doctor Who”, “Pine Gap” and “Doctors”.

Ifans will play Otto Hightower. In the Hand of the King, Ser Otto loyally and faithfully serves his king and his kingdom. In the opinion of the Hand, the greatest threat to the kingdom is the king’s brother, Daemon (Smith), and his position as heir to the throne.

Ifans, perhaps more famous, appeared in the 1999 romantic comedy “Notting Hill”, but has starred in other films such as “Alice and Wonderland: Looking through the glass”, “Snowden” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” .

Better appear as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. Dragon knight and wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Queen Who Never Was” was passed over as heir to the throne in the Great Council because the kingdom favored her cousin, Viserys, simply because he was a man.

Best previously starred in the Showtime series “Nurse Jackie” and most recently appeared on Netflix’s “Fate: The Winx Saga”. She also appeared in the Oscar winner “The King’s Speech” and in the miniseries “The Honorable Woman”.

Mizuno joins as Mysaria. She came to Westeros with nothing, sold more times than she can remember. She could have withered … but instead she became the most trusted – and most unlikely – ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.

Mizuno is known for his collaborations with Alex Garland, specifically the features “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation” and the limited FX series “Devs”. She also appeared in the Netflix limited series “Maniac”.

Toussaint is represented by CDA London. Ifans is represented by Gersh, 42, and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Best is represented by Independent Talent Group and ICM. Mizuno is represented by United Agents, WME, Goodman Genow and Wolf Kasteler.

HBO gave “House of the Dragon” a 10-episode order with the goal of opening in 2022. Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal will be co-showrunners and also executive producers, along with George RR Martin and Vince Gerardis. Sara Lee Hess will also serve as screenwriter and executive producer; Rom Schmidt will also be the executive producer. Sapochnik will direct the pilot and additional episodes. Clare Kilner and Geeta V. Patel will also direct, direct and executive co-produce Greg Gregit.

The program is one of several “Game of Thrones” TV projects currently in development. Variety reported exclusively that a series “Tales of Dunk and Egg” is in initial development on HBO, while an animated project “Game of Thrones” is underway on HBO Max.
