Gabrielle Union revealed some of her darkest struggles last year in a frank conversation about her mental health recently.

The Bring It On star, 48, participated in Gwyneth Paltrow’s virtual Go In Health summit, which was launched over the weekend.

During the conversation, Union opened up about the experience of suicidal ideation, along with hormonal issues related to a diagnosis of perimenopause.

‘I had so many moments at rock bottom as an adult, starting with being raped at 19 at gunpoint at my job. It seemed that every few years there was a big catastrophic event happening in my life, ‘Gabrielle shared, as seen on E! News.

‘[It] leaves you in your a ** and you’re like “There’s no way I can move on, I’ll never recover, I’ll never be the same,” she added.

In addition, Union discussed being diagnosed with perimenopause in his 30s, which can cause hormonal disorders and symptoms [that] reached a feverish peak ‘in September last year.

‘I thought I was going crazy. I thought I had early onset dementia, Alzheimer ‘, Gabrielle shared.

“I gained 10 kilos during the night of water retention, inflammation, bizarre. I couldn’t think. Now, when I have to speak in public for the past few months, I get very anxious, because I’m like, ‘Will I remember the words?’

From then on, things only got worse for the actress and author at the end of the year.

‘I fell into something so dark in December that it scared me. I had a stupid argument with D [Dwyane Wade, her husband], and instead of my usual problem solving … immediately, my brain, that little inner voice said, “He’ll never understand unless you’re dead,” revealed Gabrielle.

She went on to explain how therapy and those close to her helped her out of that dark place.

‘I was able to overcome this with psychotherapy and delving into how I can regulate my hormones. Fortunately, I was at home and warned everyone, ‘she added later.

‘Separating the symptoms from who you really are … saying it’s a challenge, I don’t think I really have the words, or lost them, to describe what those last months have been like.’

Before that period, Gabrielle faced additional difficulties last year – that is, her rivalry with NBC and America’s Got Talent, with the actress alleging racism on the part of the network and those on the set for “toxic” behavior and highlighting her appearance as a problem .
