“We witnessed actions within the Capitol building that were inconsistent with the rule of law. The rights to freedom of expression and assembly do not give anyone the right to resort to violence, sedition and insurrection, ”they wrote in the statement.
The declaration is considered a significant step because the chiefs seek, whenever possible, to avoid taking positions that may have political implications. But, given what happened, the chiefs felt it was important to make a statement given the seriousness of the events that involved possession.
“As members of the service, we must embody the Nation’s values and ideals. We support and defend the Constitution. Any act to interrupt the constitutional process is not just against our traditions, values and oath; is against the law, “said the statement.
In addition, the statement referred to Congressional certification of the election and said: “President-elect Biden will be sworn in and become our 46th Commander in Chief.”
