Former NFL striker Josh Evans died after a battle with kidney cancer, the team announced. Evans was 48 years old.

Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk released a statement on Friday: “I am very sad to hear that our Titan family lost Josh Evans today. His fight against cancer was one of courage and strength and his companions were at his side encouraging him throughout the fight. Let’s remember his great personality and even bigger smile. We send our condolences to your family and friends at this difficult time. “

Evans asked NFL fans for prayers last summer.

He underwent 13 hours of surgery after being diagnosed with kidney cancer in January 2020. Tumors were found in his kidneys, gallbladder, intestines and pancreas.

Evans entered a cancer treatment facility in Atlanta last summer, after learning that the cancer had spread to his spine and liver.

Evans spent seven years with the Titans franchise, originally turning the Houston Oilers into an unrepeatable newcomer in 1995. He has played his last three seasons with the Jets. He started for the Titans during the 1999 Super Bowl season.

Preparations for the funeral at the Willie Watkins funeral home in Jonesboro, Georgia, are not complete.
