Former QB Packers Tim Boyle signs 1-year contract with Lions

The reserve quarterback in Green Bay for the past two seasons is following Jamaal Williams to Detroit.

According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, former Packers quarterback Tim Boyle is signing with Lions. Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reports that the deal is a one-year deal worth $ 2.5 million, with a $ 1 million signing bonus.

Boyle joins Williams as free Packers agents signing with Lions on Wednesday.

An undocumented free agent from Connecticut, Boyle spent three years with the Packers, including two years as Aaron Rodgers’ main reserve. He defeated DeShone Kizer in 2019 and Jordan Love in 2020.

Boyle was a restricted free agent, but he did not receive a proposal from the Packers, which made him unrestricted and free to sign with any team to start the new year of the league.

In Detroit, Boyle will have the chance to be the main reserve behind Jared Goff, who was negotiated with Lions in exchange for longtime holder Matthew Stafford in January.

Boyle has played 11 games for the Packers in the past two seasons, mostly to kneel to end the games. He completed three 15-yard passes.

With a big arm, flashes of pocket-play skill during preseason, three years of work under Aaron Rodgers and two years of experience in Matt LaFleur’s attack, Boyle has an intriguing skill set for a Lions team looking for rebuild the quarterback position.

Love, the Packers’ first-round pick in 2020, will be the reserve quarterback behind Rodgers in 2021. He has been inactive as the No. 3 quarterback in all 16 games of last season.
