An unexpected dispute arose between Grohl and Gallagher after the lead singer of Foos told the crowd at his 2019 Reading Festival performance that they wanted to start a petition to bring Oasis together.
Gallagher later referred to the comments during a show in San Diego, California, stating: “I hereby initiate a petition to separate the Foo Fighters. Any free person can sign. ”
In a video of Gallagher performing at another location in Irvine, California, the musician is heard saying, “If Nirvana’s drummer wants Oasis to be together again, he can go up on this stage now and suck my ***. ”
Speaking for Subway two years after the incident, Hawkins opened the door on the derogatory comments made at Grohl’s expense.
He said, “I was really protecting my friend Dave Grohl, Noel said some shit and he always said shit about us, so instead of being politically correct … Nah, fuck this guy.”
Hawkins had already spoken out against Gallagher in light of his comments. In 2019, the Foos drummer told Radio X: “He was really bad. He was really an idiot. ”
At the time, the 48-year-old added that it was “Team Liam”. The duo led the beloved rock band Mancunian from 1991 to 2009 before suffering a bitter breakup.
