Florida professor traveled to request sex with 2-year-old child: police

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – A Florida elementary school teacher is facing charges that he requested online to have sex with a 2-year-old child and traveled to find the child.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that Xavier Donte Alexander, 28, was arrested on Thursday on criminal charges of soliciting sex with a minor and traveling to meet a minor for sex. Alexander is a fourth grade teacher at Grove Park Elementary School in Palm Beach Gardens and also advertised as a nanny on several sites.

The sheriff’s office and the court clerk did not immediately disclose further information about the allegations. Alexander was sentenced on $ 1 million bail in a hearing on Friday. He is being represented by the Palm Beach County Public Defender, who did not immediately respond to an e-mail requesting comments.

The Palm Beach County school district issued a statement saying it is “shocked and appalled” by the charges and is cooperating with the authorities. The district said Alexander was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation and that none of Alexander’s alleged crimes occurred at the school. He said he has notified parents and families that they are receiving support services.

If convicted on both charges, Alexander faces up to 20 years in prison.
