First call: Report says Omar Khan of Steelers will not be GM Texans; Seattle franchise hires more Penguins alumni

It doesn’t look like Omar Khan will leave the Steelers yet. The new NHL franchise in Seattle will have some very familiar Penguins alumni in the office. A WPIAL product is upset about what happened in Philadelphia on Sunday night. And there is an update on this claim by Cleveland Browns players in drag racing.

Oh, Aaron Rogers likes Iron City beer.

All of this on Wednesday’s “First Call”.

Browns Update

The two alleged drag racing Cleveland Browns are planning to plead guilty on Wednesday morning. This is according to his lawyer, via the NFL Network.

Receiver Rashard Higgins and rookie left tackle Jedrick Wills were summoned by police on Tuesday morning in Westlake, Ohio.

The Browns come to Heinz Field on Sunday to play against the Steelers in a playoff game.

According to an Associated Press report on the story, an incident report said that a marijuana store was “found and destroyed”. It was not immediately known which vehicle was found. A team spokesman said the Browns are aware of the incident, “gathering more information and handling it appropriately”.

Is Omar out?

Steelers salary cap sage Omar Khan has been cited as a potential general manager of the NFL for years. This week, it was reported that he was in the mix for the Houston Texans’ work. Texans confirmed that report on Monday.

But now ESPN’s Adam Schefter says Nick Casserio is getting the show.

Casserio was former Patriots player personnel director.

Enough endorsement

In Wisconsin, they know their beer. And Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is known to like one or two every now and then.

OK, um. Slowly. Very slowly.

So when this beer connoisseur endorses Iron City, it’s a noteworthy item. And Rodgers did just that on former NFL player Pat McAfee’s show.

Now, maybe Rodgers was doing this to explore McAfee’s roots as a guy from western Pennsylvania. He graduated from Plum and was a gambler at West Virginia Mountaineer.

If so, work well done.

Regardless, if Rodgers ever succeeds Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh, I’m sure an endorsement awaits him.

See you in Seattle

Ron Francis, a former Penguins star, is filling his Seattle Kraken office with several fellow Pittsburgh alumni.

The franchise’s first general manager hired Jason Botterill and Norm Maciver on Tuesday.

Botterill was on the Penguins board for a 10-year period that saw the team win the Stanley Cup in 2009, 2016 and 2017. He will be a GM assistant in Seattle as he was here in Pittsburgh. Most recently, Botterill was the general manager of Buffalo Sabers.

Maciver, a former Pens defender in 1995-96, spent the past 14 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, who also won three Cups.

Maciver is scheduled to be a team player director in Seattle. He had been director of player development, director of player personnel and assistant general manager of Chicago.

Straight from Miles’ mouth

Philadelphia running back Miles Sanders is among those dissatisfied with the placement of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts for third striker Nate Sudfeld on Sunday night.

The widely publicized incident helped Washington win over NFC East and ruled out any chance that New York would win it 6-10.

Now the Penn State product and the Woodland Hills graduate are making their point.

“Dude, to be honest, nobody liked the decision. Nobody, ”Sanders told 94WIP on Tuesday. “That’s all I can really say. I don’t know who was the main person behind that decision. All I know is that many people on the team (were) confused. “

But let’s be honest. Eagles stink. The whole division stinks. And Washington was probably the best team anyway.
