The first Bachelorette Trista Sutter helped formulate a ‘medical strategy’ to help her husband Ryan, whom she met and was engaged to during a reality TV show.

The 46-year-old firefighter suffered a mysterious illness for more than five months, he explained on his Instagram page in early December.

In a new Instagram post on Tuesday, he shared how his loved ones, including Trista, helped him through the ordeal, while he wrote: ‘Resilience is not a solo act.’

Trista has a master’s degree in physiotherapy and, while working as a dancer for the Miami Heat, she was also a pediatric physiotherapist at a local children’s hospital.

Along with a photo album documenting his health situation, Ryan wrote: ‘My wife went on a mission, developing a medical strategy and a path for hopeful responses, while at the same time leaving daily reminders to keep me going.’

He included a photo of several of the notes, with sweet messages like, ‘Thinking of you in my dreams’ and ‘I’m the lucky one’ written on them.

“My family supported me, my friends showed great support and my colleagues a high degree of understanding and patience. I am grateful for all this, ‘wrote Ryan, who shares two children with Trista.

The firefighter, who lives in Avon, Colorado, told his followers on Instagram that he has always prided himself on his ‘self-reliance’ and his refusal to ‘give up, give in or show any sign of weakness’.

He revealed: ‘Although I had collapses, few saw them. Mainly, I internalized the difficulty and was distracted from its presence through physical effort. ‘

However, his recent health crisis has shown him that ‘Sometimes it is necessary to let others in, ask for help and accept it.’

Earlier this month, he explained: ‘In February I started my firefighter career and started an 18-week fire academy. Toward the end of this process, I felt more and more exhausted and began to experience occasional flu symptoms.

Ryan clarified: ‘I have been tested for COVID several times, but I have never tested positive. I finished the academy and believed / hoped to start recovering and feeling better. Five months have passed and, in fact, I feel worse.

He described a ‘battery of symptoms’ as’ fatigue – sometimes almost paralyzing, deep pains in the body and muscles, fevers, night sweats, itching all over the body without a rash, headaches, swelling in the neck and throat, congestion , dizziness, nausea and just general not feeling well. ‘

However, in a show of his courage, he pointed out that he is “functional and continues to work on my regular fire schedule”, despite not feeling well.
