The FBI released new videos of suspects in the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill on Thursday, asking the public for help in identifying 10 people suspected of “flagrant” attacks on Capitol police.
“The FBI is asking for public help to identify 10 individuals suspected of being involved in some of the most violent attacks against officers who protected the United States Capitol and our democratic process on January 6,” Steven D’Antuono, assistant director of the FBI’s Washington Field Office said in a statement.
The 10 new videos show various acts of violence on the Capitol, including protesters swinging poles, throwing objects, spraying chemicals and pulling on gas masks and police shields.
“These individuals are seen on video committing blatant crimes against those who have devoted their lives to protecting the American people,” said D’Antuono.
Since January 6, the FBI has arrested more than 300 people in connection with the riot, 65 of whom are accused of assaulting police officers. But the 10 individuals shown in the videos have not yet been identified.
Mr. D’Antuono asked the Americans for help, but acknowledged the difficulty in doing so.
“We are grateful to the public who have already helped a lot in these investigations,” he said. “We know that it can be a difficult decision to report information about family, friends or coworkers, but it is the right thing to do, and the FBI continues to need your help in identifying these suspects.”
Five people died in the January 6 attack, including Capitol policeman Brian Sicknick. The riot began after a rally in which then President Donald Trump encouraged his supporters to walk to the Capitol and protest for Joe Biden’s election victory certification. Soon after, protesters stormed the building and attacked police officers.
The FBI has been arresting suspects in the riot since then, and prosecutors say at least 100 more people will be indicted soon.
The FBI asks anyone with information about the 10 new suspects to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or digitally send them to tips.fbi.gov.
