FBI releases photos of suspects wanted in alleged assault on officer during Capitol riot

Federal officials released photos on Sunday of seven suspects wanted in the alleged attack on a Washington, DC, police officer during the deadly pro-Trump riot on the United States Capitol.

In a statement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation alleged that the suspects, all men, assaulted Mike Fanone, a police officer in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department, after violating the Capitol building.

The case is one of more than 300 that authorities are still investigating related to the January 6 uprising, a law enforcement official said on Sunday. Seventy-four people were charged with federal crimes and 42 others were charged in Washington, DC, High Court.

Among those arrested was a man who allegedly stole the pulpit from Mayor Nancy Pelosi, a conservative activist and recently elected West Virginia state delegate and a Virginia police officer.

The investigators examined more than 150,000 photos and videos of informants.

Fanone told NBC Washington that he suffered a mild heart attack during the rebellion after being repeatedly hit by a stun gun and beaten with a flag with pro-police images.

During the alleged attack, Fanone said the protesters took their badge, radio and magazine with ammunition.

“Guys were trying to grab my gun,” he told the station. “They shouted, ‘Kill him with your own weapon.'”

Another police officer, Christina Laury, told NBC Washington that protesters were attacking police officers with bear spray, metal poles and “anything” in their effort to enter the building.

Fanone said that after he started shouting that he had children, some people in the group helped put him safe.

“For the people who helped me, thank you,” he told NBC Washington. “But fuck you for being there.”

The riot left five dead, including US Capitol policeman Brian Sicknick.
