Fans perplexed by Cyndi Lauper’s strange NYE performance

Cyndi Lauper said goodbye to 2020 in the most appropriate way: giving a shocking and exaggerated performance on live TV.

The 67-year-old pop star sang “True Colors” and “Hope” in Dick Clark’s New Year’s “Rockin ‘Eve With Ryan Seacrest” on ABC Thursday night.

After joining Seacrest, Billy Porter and Lucy Hale for “True Colors”, Lauper’s glam team tried to give it a touch up, prompting the singer to shout, “I’m on camera! I’m on camera!”

The chaotic performance brought to mind the disastrous performance of diva Mariah Carey on New Year’s Eve 2016, during which she was unable to hear her own music, giving up and standing on stage with her mouth closed and a hand on her hip.

“Well, happy New Year. We can’t hear it, but I’ll move on, ”she huffed, adding later:“ I’m trying to be a good sportsman here ”.

Lauper debuted “Hope” during the initial coronavirus block in March. But even that apparently wasn’t enough time to make the right notes. On stage, she jumped while trying to sing in tune.

Twitter was quick to announce the less than ideal performance, with many citing the stylist’s strange moment.

“Cyndi Lauper’s performance was the final punishment for 2020,” he wrote @ Daviesallison1A.

“If you thought 2020 couldn’t get any worse, you are not watching this performance by Cyndi Lauper #bigyikes, “posted @Scudpat.

“Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter sounded like two 8-year-olds putting on a show for the adults with the intention of asking for a sleepover later,” said @alysha_share.

“Drunken aunts invaded New Year’s Eve in Times Square,” he joked @ RetepM82.
