Jennifer Aniston sparked a debate on social media after sharing the photo of a Christmas ornament that many thought was not the coronavirus pandemic.
The “Friends” actress, 51, accessed her stories on Instagram on Christmas Day to share a new ornament for her Christmas tree. The photo showed her holding a wooden circle with the words “our first pandemic in 2020” engraved in elegant text.
However, given that spikes in COVID-19 cases have forced many to stay home this holiday season and not celebrate with the family as they normally would, some found the ornament a little tasteless due to the circumstances.

However, although many people thought the ornament was insensitive due to the current climate in which the country is suffering from coronavirus infections, many ran in defense of the star. A handful noted that Aniston has used his platform to defend small businesses affected by the pandemic and also to encourage his followers to wear masks to help stem its spread.

In July, Aniston shared the personal story of a friend who dealt with COVID-19 in an effort to encourage her followers to wear masks and take the disease seriously.
“This is our friend Kevin. Perfectly healthy, no underlying health issues. This is Covid. This is real,” the star began his caption. “We can’t be so naive in thinking that we can get away from it … if we want it to end, and we’re done, right? The only step we can take is PLEASE #wearadamnmask.”

She concluded her post by encouraging her fans to think about their own friends and family right now to try to inspire them to mask and fight the virus.
