Pierre Cardin, the French stylist whose Space Age style was among the iconic looks of 20th century fashion, died at 98, the French Academy of Fine Arts said.
Independent of licensing, Cardin’s name represented a myriad of relief products, from wristwatches to bed sheets, making his brand one of the most famous in the world.
At the height of the brand in the 1970s and 80s, its products were sold at around 100,000 points of sale worldwide, although that number has declined dramatically in the following decades.

An experienced businessman, Cardin used his fabulous wealth to snap up top-tier properties in Paris, including Belle Epoque’s Maxim’s restaurant. He was introduced to the Academy of Fine Arts in 1992.
The academy announced his death in a tweet Tuesday.
