Fallon welcomes TikTok dancers after Addison Rae Backlash

Last month, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon invited celebrity TikTok Addison Rae to visit and teach America what kids are up to at TikTok. On Monday night, Jimmy Fallon welcomed the real creators of the extremely popular TikTok dances performed by Rae at the show via Zoom, ostensibly to clarify to America that she had nothing to do with doing them.

“On our last show before the break, we did a little bit with Addison Rae, where she taught me eight viral TikTok dances,” explains Fallon. “Now, we recognize that the creators of these dances deserve to have their own spotlight, so now, some of the creators will join me to talk about how their dance went viral and then perform the dance themselves.”

After Rae’s appearance at the Tonight’s show, who also performed a performance of their recent single “Obsessed”, many criticized the show for effectively ignoring the TikTokers workers behind Rae’s movements, many of whom are black and people of color.

While Jimmy presumably only made the creators stop in response to a negative online reaction, it is still nice to see him rooting for Mya Nicole Johnson and Chris Cotter’s “Up” dance; The movements of Dorien Scott’s “Corvette Corvette”; The Fly Boy Fu “Laffy Taffy” remix and Indii’s chic footwork; Adam Snyder, Nate Nale and Greg Dahl’s “Blinding Lights” boogie; and the super hit “Savage” by Keara Wilson. Wilson says, “I would have to say that seeing my dance bring joy to people during the quarantine was definitely the best part.” Ah, TikTok! Our heart!
