Facebook Oculus begins to deploy multiuser support, starting with Quest 2

Facebook is launching multiuser support as an experimental feature for Oculus Quest 2 headsets, the company announced on Thursday. The primary account holder can add up to three additional accounts to a device. Facebook is also launching application sharing as an experimental feature for Quest 2, which will allow accounts on a device to access applications owned by the primary account holder.

For now, the new features are exclusive to Oculus Quest 2, but Facebook plans to take them to all Quest users “eventually”.

There are a few other caveats to watch out for. Facebook started demanding that people log in to their Quest headsets with their Facebook accounts last year, and this controversial rule still applies to everyone who logs in to a headset. Applications can only be shared by the primary account holder with other accounts connected to a Quest device.

And not all applications support application sharing yet. It will work with all new Quest Store apps, but Facebook says that “a limited number of existing games will not yet be available through App Sharing, unless players buy their own copy”.
