Face-to-face legal proceedings are resumed on Monday in SC after the January suspension

COLOMBIA, SC (WMBF) – The courts were back in business on Monday.

Personal court cases were resumed across the state of Palmetto after they were suspended in January due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

An order signed by South Carolina Supreme Court President Donald Beatty authorized all legal proceedings in person to begin in circuit, family, inventory and master-in-equity courts on Monday. Courts can also conduct grand jury proceedings in person on Monday.

Courts across the state can begin jury trials on April 5, according to the order.

Coronavirus safety precautions, such as wearing face masks, will remain in effect.
