Former Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Erickson was accused this week of a misdemeanor for reckless driving as part of a fatal and racing accident in California.
According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Erickson was involved in a street race with Rebecca Grossman, when Grossman’s vehicle crashed and killed two boys in the crosswalk while walking with his parents on September 29.
Both cars were reportedly driving at excessive speeds when Grossman ran over the two boys, one of whom died on the spot. Grossman reportedly continued to drive his car a quarter of a mile before his engine stopped running.
The incident, which took place in Westlake Villiage, resulted in Grossman’s charge on December 30 of two counts of murder and wrongful death. She was also charged with a hit and run crime that resulted in death.
Grossman, 57, faces up to 34 years in prison if convicted.
Erickson was a 15-year MLB veteran and was part of the Twins 1991 World Series Championship team. Erickson led the American League with 20 wins that season and finished runner-up for Roger Clemens in the AL Cy Young Award vote.
In six seasons with the Twins, Erickson made 61-60 with an ERA of 4.22.
