French President Emmanuel Macron decided not to block France for the third time, as the country continues to register more than 24,000 new infections a day.
As of Sunday, France will close its borders to all non-essential travelers outside the European Union. Those traveling within the EU must have a negative coronavirus test before re-entering.
But Macron did not come to order the closing of all deals.
“I have confidence in us. These hours we are living in are crucial. We will do everything we can to reduce the epidemic together, ” he tweeted Saturday.
France reported an additional 24,393 positive COVID-19 tests on Friday.
Recent research has shown growing frustration with the vaccine launch there and the widespread belief that another block was inevitable. As of Saturday, only 1.45 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered. Israel, by comparison, managed 3.5 million a week earlier.
