Emily VanCamp laughs at MCU’s negative reaction to Captain America’s kiss: ‘We All Were’ Surprised

Emily VanCamp made her long-awaited return to the Marvel cinematic universe over the weekend when her character, Sharon Carter, recalled the most recent episode of the Disney + series “The Falcon and the Winter Solider”. The episode marked VanCamp’s first departure as Sharon Carter since the 2016 film “Captain America: Civil War”, which included a kiss between VanCamp’s character and Chris Rogers / Captain America of Chris Evans who divided the fandom. The kiss was Sharon’s last appearance on the MCU until “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”.

“There was some reaction against that,” VanCamp told Variety about Sharon-Steve’s kiss. “With Sharon, I was always trying to fit it in and these films are very big, and it’s completely understandable. To see who she has become over this long period of time, and regardless of Captain America as we know him, is really interesting for me. The intrigue for me was to see who Sharon is now. “

When pressed about the unexpected reaction that the kiss generated among MCU fans, VanCamp replied: “I mean, look, you have to laugh. Some of these stories happen and others don’t. But, you know, I found an incredible film. It’s just one of those things.

“I think we were all [surprised]. I mean, we certainly did our best ”, continued VanCamp. “And I think one of the best things that came out of that scene, to be honest, with this incredible dynamic between Sam and Bucky. You really get that glimpse into the camaraderie dynamics of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier. You want to see more of it, and we can see it, which is fantastic. “

The Sharon MCU fans found in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” are not the good-natured agents they met in the “Captain America” films. “There is a little more advantage in Sharon than we have ever seen,” said the actress. “She is no longer that young, wide-eyed agent. It is a little rough at the edges. Did we find out exactly what she had to do to be where she is now and survive? No. But we have a feeling that it was not always easy and that the sacrifices she made were not always worth it for her. It was really cool to see that chip on your shoulder that we’ve never seen before. “

“The Falcon and the Winter Solider” airs new episodes every Friday at Disney +.
