Mark Harris has produced a surprising report for TechCrunch on the legal issues that have befallen buyers of the Boring Company’s flame-throwing device. Part of what makes it worth reading is that it unearths stories you may not have heard of yet: a police raid in London, an American serving time in an Italian prison and how they appeared on the narcotics transport alongside real guns and bags of cocaine.
While the name Not a Flamethrower may actually be accurate, history shows that when police around the world see you with a weapon-shaped device, especially one that fires flames, they may not join you in laughing over the ideas crazy Elon. They may end up arresting you.
For me, the biggest moment “so what?” The story was when a lawyer said from Not to Flamethrower: “It’s a toy that they sell to children”. Please, if you were one of the people who won this device – don’t give it to a child.
While the product can be tedious, the article certainly is not, and you should definitely read it. I promise you won’t get burned.
